Wang Yi meets with Co-chairs of the 77th UN General Assembly Security Council Reform Intergovernmental negotiation Mechanism

Xinhua News Agency, April 29, Wang Yi, member of the political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, met in Beijing on 29 April with the co-chairs of the intergovernmental negotiation mechanism for the reform of the Security Council of the 77th UN General Assembly, permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations Barneyi and permanent Representative of Austria to the United Nations Masik. Wang Yi said that the reform of the Security Council should adhere to fairness and justice, increase the representation and voice of developing countries, and give more small and medium-sized countries the opportunity to participate in Security Council decision-making, especially to correct historical injustices to Africa. It is hoped that the co-chairs will guide all parties to remove interference, gather consensus, and promote the process of Security Council reform to be widely recognized by the international community, and the results will stand the test of history. Barneyi and Masik appreciated China's commitment to strengthening the role of the United Nations and expressed their willingness to strengthen communication and consultation with all member States, including China.
