Although the relative poverty rate of the elderly population has gradually improved, 60% of the elderly still think that their income is not enough, and nearly 40% of the 75-79-year-old want to continue to work. According to the "Future population projection" report released by the Statistics Department, it is estimated that 18.4% of South Korea's total population will be over 65 this year, of which 7.7% are over 75. However, the proportion of people over the age of 75 will gradually increase, reaching 30.7% by 2070, much higher than major OECD member states such as Japan (25.6%), Spain (24.8%), Italy (24.1%), Poland (22.6%) and the United States (16%).
