[EU approves 8.1 billion euros of publicly funded chip research and development products to be launched in 2025] on June 8, local time, the EU announced that it had approved a new "European Common interest Project" (IPCEI) to support the research, innovation and first industrial applications of microelectronics and communication technologies. The new "important European Common interest Project" is called IPCEI ME/CT, and its members include Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Spain. Member states will provide 8.1 billion euros of public funds and an additional 13.7 billion euros of private investment is expected to be released in the future. The research and development of "IPCEI ME/CT" covers materials, tools, microelectronics and communication technologies in the chip design and manufacturing process. 56 enterprises will undertake 68 projects to develop technologies beyond those currently available in the market, involving sensors, high-performance processors, microprocessors and other fields. These projects aim to promote the transformation of digitization and greening through innovative microelectronics and communication solutions, the development of energy-efficient electronic systems and manufacturing methods, and the development of technologies such as 5G, 6G, autopilot, artificial intelligence and quantum computing. The first batch of new products will be introduced to the market as early as 2025, and the whole project is scheduled to be completed in 2032, which is expected to create about 8700 direct jobs.
