[central Bank of China: total assets of financial institutions at the end of the first quarter of 2023 increased by 10.8% over the same period last year] according to preliminary statistics of the people's Bank of China, at the end of the first quarter of 2023, the total assets of financial institutions in China were 439.33 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.8% over the same period last year, of which the total assets of banking institutions were 397.25 trillion yuan, an increase of 11% over the same period last year. The total assets of securities institutions were 13.71 trillion yuan, an increase of 7% over the same period last year, while those of insurance institutions were 28.37 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.5% over the same period last year. The liabilities of financial institutions were 400.81 trillion yuan, an increase of 11.3 percent over the same period last year. Of this total, the liabilities of banking institutions were 364.84 trillion yuan, up 11.3 percent over the same period last year; those of the securities industry were 10.42 trillion yuan, up 6.7 percent over the same period last year; and those of the insurance industry were 25.54 trillion yuan, an increase of 11.8 percent over the same period last year.
