The General Administration of Customs: the total value of China's imports and exports in the first five months of this year was 16.77 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.7 percent over the same period last year. The General Administration of Customs announced today (7 June) that in the first five months, China's foreign trade imports and exports increased by 4.7 percent compared with the same period last year, achieving steady growth. According to customs statistics, in the first five months of this year, China's foreign trade imports and exports totaled 16.77 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.7 percent over the same period last year, of which exports were 9.62 trillion yuan, up 8.1 percent over the same period last year, and imports were 7.15 trillion yuan, an increase of 0.5 percent over the same period last year. Customs statistics show that in the first five months of this year, ASEAN continued to be China's largest trading partner, with imports and exports of 2.59 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.9 percent over the same period last year, accounting for 15.4 percent of China's total foreign trade value. Imports and exports to the European Union totaled 2.28 trillion yuan, an increase of 3.6 percent over the same period last year. In the same period, imports and exports to countries along the "Belt and Road Initiative" route totaled 5.78 trillion yuan, an increase of 13.2 percent over the same period last year, including 44 percent to Kazakhstan and other five Central Asian countries. Imports and exports to other RCEP members totaled 5.11 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.5 percent over the same period last year.
