[WTO Review EU Trade Policy China: CBAM and other measures regrettable] the World Trade Organization (WTO) held its 15th trade policy review meeting on the EU. The EU carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) has aroused great interest among its members, and its new trade strategy entitled "Open, sustainable and confident trade policy" has also attracted much attention. The representative of the Chinese side praised the important role played by the EU and said that at a time when economic globalization is facing headwinds, trade politicization and weaponization, strategic autonomy is of vital importance to members like the EU, and we appreciate the EU's efforts in this regard. Having said that, the Chinese representative also expressed concern about some trade and trade-related policies recently adopted by the EU, which China believes deviate from the agreed international principles and rules, including those of WTO. China said that measures such as CBAM are regrettable because they fail to comply with the basic principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate change and the Paris Agreement as well as WTO rules. China said such measures would discriminate against imported products and restrict market access, especially those from developing members. (first Finance)
