[China and Sri Lanka hold 12th round of diplomatic consultations] on May 30, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Vijevadna co-chaired the 12th round of diplomatic consultations between China and Sri Lanka. Sun Weidong said that China and Sri Lanka are good brothers, good partners and good friends. In recent years, China and Sri Lanka have jointly built a "Belt and Road Initiative" with high quality and joined hands to combat the COVID-19 epidemic, injecting new impetus into the development of bilateral relations. China appreciates Sri Lanka's firm adherence to the one-China principle, will continue to firmly support Sri Lanka in safeguarding sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, supports the Sri Lankan government and people in uniting and strengthening themselves, overcoming difficulties together, and supports Sri Lanka in exploring a path of development suited to its own national conditions. China is willing to strengthen exchanges at all levels and cooperation in all fields with Sri Lanka, promote the comprehensive development of the two flagship projects of Colombo Port City and Hambantota Port, expand cooperation in investment, finance, energy, logistics and tourism, and join hands to achieve better development. China thanks Sri Lanka for urgently sending warships and divers to the central Indian Ocean to assist in the search and rescue of Chinese fishing boats. Vijwadner made positive comments on the latest progress of practical cooperation between China and Sri Lanka and its role in promoting Sri Lankan economic and social development, sincerely thanked China for its valuable support in Sri Lanka's difficult times, and appreciated China's leading role in international multilateral affairs. Sri Lanka will work with China to jointly build a "Belt and Road Initiative" with high quality, raise the level of economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, and speed up the resumption of tourism and aviation cooperation and personnel exchanges. Add momentum to Sri Lankan economic recovery and improvement of people's livelihood.
