FAP, May 31 (FAP)-- the Japanese Senate passed the GX (Green conversion) decarbonization Power Act on May 31st, which includes provisions on nuclear power plants that theoretically allow nuclear power plants to continue to operate beyond their 60-year useful life. The bill had previously been passed by the plenary session of the Japanese House of Representatives. After the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011, Japan implemented a new safety standard for nuclear power plants, which stipulates that the general operating life of nuclear power plants is 40 years. However, with the approval of the Japanese Atomic Power Regulatory Commission, the extension of the operating life of 20 years can be allowed.
