[European car company Stellantis reduces subsidy requirements for the Canadian government] according to sources close to the negotiations, European automaker Stellantis has lowered its requirements for local Canadian governments to provide more public funds for its joint venture with LG energy solutions. As the joint venture electric car battery plant involves 5 billion dollars of investment and thousands of jobs, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau and Ontario Governor Doug Ford are trying to organize the relocation of the project to the United States because of huge subsidies from the United States. In March 2022, the federal and provincial governments each provided $500 million in subsidies to the carmaker. (Toronto Star)
