FAP, May 30 (FAP)-White House officials and Republican congressional leaders are stepping up lobbying within their respective parties to try to get the debt ceiling deal passed by Congress. Not only did President Joe Biden personally appeal to lawmakers to support the bill, but cabinet members and senior White House staff had called at least 60 House Democrats as of early Monday, May 29, a Democratic official said. "I never said I was confident about what Congress is going to do next, but I do feel very good," Biden told reporters on Monday. "I've talked to several members, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and I've talked to a lot of people. It feels good. Let's wait and see when the vote starts." Both Biden and House Speaker McCarthy expressed confidence in winning enough votes, and heavyweights of moderates and pragmatists from both parties have also made preliminary statements of support.
