Local councils and general elections were held in Spain on May 28, electing mayors, mayors and municipal councillors of 8131 municipalities across the country, as well as chairmen of 12 of the 17 autonomous regions. According to local media reports, there are about 35 million voters of the right age in the country, who started voting at 9 am that day and will close at 20:00 local time. The main political parties participating in the local elections include the Workers' Socialist Party, the people's Party, the Voice Party, the "We can" Party and the Civic Party. Analysts point out that the results of local elections can be seen as a weather vane of the general election to some extent.
