[EU and Pfizer reached an agreement to reduce the purchase of COVID-19 vaccine by about 1/3] the European Union reached an agreement with Pfizer and BioNTech SE to reduce the purchase of COVID-19 vaccine by about 1/3 because some member states said they were unwilling to pay for newly delivered vaccines after "the pandemic began to abate." The European Commission announced on Friday that the revised supply contract takes into account the epidemiological situation while continuing to ensure that the latest version of the vaccine is available in the event of new worrying variants. The new agreement also foresees a reduction in the doses purchased by EU member states under the contract, the committee said. According to two people familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the number will be reduced by about 35 per cent.
