National Development and Reform Commission: speed up the continuation and modernization of large and medium-sized irrigation districts

[national Development and Reform Commission: speeding up the continuation and Modernization of large and medium-sized Irrigation districts] on May 26, Wu Xiao, director of the Rural economy Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that we should speed up the continuation and modernization of large and medium-sized irrigation districts. At present, a total of 7330 large and medium-sized irrigation districts have been built throughout the country, which are the main force in the national grain, cotton and oil production and play an important supporting role in the construction of an agricultural power. Because of the low standard of early construction and long running time, some irrigation districts have some problems, such as aging facilities, declining capacity, low water efficiency and so on. During the 14th five-year Plan period, investment in the central budget will focus on supporting the continuation and modernization of more than 120 large-scale irrigation districts. After the completion of the project, it is estimated that the irrigated area will be increased or improved by about 88 million mu, and the annual water-saving capacity will be increased by about 7 billion cubic meters.
