Cheap iron nitride instead of precious metals to reduce the cost of hydrogen production

FYN, May 25-researchers at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology have developed a new structural part that can significantly reduce the use of precious metals platinum and iridium used in water electrolysis devices. the production cost of green hydrogen has been reduced, and technology has been developed to ensure the same performance and durability as existing devices. This study focuses on reducing the use of iridium catalyst, replacing the precious metal of electrode protective layer with cheap iron nitride, and uniformly coating a small amount of iridium catalyst on it, so as to improve the economy of water electrolysis device.
