The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council: "Taiwan independence" provocation is a threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. On 17 May, Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, refuted Lai Qingde's remarks on "Taiwan independence" at today's regular news conference of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council. Spokesman Ma Xiaoguang said: the relevant remarks ignore the facts and the logic is confused, which once again exposes the absurdity of the "Taiwan independence" argument. Taiwan is a part of China and has never been a country, so how can we say "sovereignty"? The "1992 consensus" that embodies the one-China principle is the political basis for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations. Denying this basis and attempting to change the status quo that the mainland and Taiwan both belong to one China will only undermine peace in the Taiwan Strait and destabilize cross-strait relations. The provocation of "Taiwan independence" is the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, the greatest threat to the security and well-being of Taiwan compatriots, and will only bring serious disasters to Taiwan compatriots in the end.
