He should have stopped the sale of cheating vehicles after the Audi diesel emissions scandal broke out. He agreed to pay 1.1 million euros to settle with the prosecutor and the court in exchange for a suspended sentence. Audi and its parent Volkswagen Group admitted to cheating in diesel engine emission tests in 2015, involving more than millions of vehicles. The scandal cost Volkswagen more than 30 billion euros.
