Graphene is made of the thinnest heart implant so far

According to a paper published in the latest issue of Advanced Materials, a research team led by Northwestern University and the University of Texas at Austin has developed the thinnest heart implant made of graphene. The new graphene implant is similar in appearance to a disposable tattoo patch, less thick than a hair, but still works like a traditional pacemaker. Unlike current pacemakers and implantable defibrillators, this new device can be gently integrated with the heart to detect and treat arrhythmias. It is thin and flexible, fits the fine outline of the heart, and has enough elasticity and strength to withstand the beating of the heart.
