Moderates in the US House of Representatives propose debt ceiling extension

FAP, April 19-moderate Republicans and Democrats in the US House of Representatives are discussing a backup plan to shelve the US debt ceiling until the end of the year after President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy failed to reach an agreement on a longer-term solution in the coming weeks. According to a copy of the draft plan, the idea envisages a moratorium on the debt ceiling until December 31. A member of the 64-member House problem-solving panel confirmed the plan. The group has not officially announced its plans, but members are increasingly concerned that the US could default as soon as June and there is little sign that the current impasse over the issue will be broken.
