FAP, May 14 (Xinhua)-- Hebrew University in Israel recently issued a communiqu é saying that a study led by researchers at the university has found the pathological mechanism that leads to faster cognitive deterioration in female patients with Alzheimer's disease. The study is published in the new issue of the American Journal of Alzheimer's Disease and dementia. The communique said that Alzheimer's disease is a serious neurodegenerative disease, female patients deteriorate faster than male patients, cognitive decline is more obvious, so the impact on women is particularly serious. Current treatments are often designed to delay the exacerbation of symptoms, and some drugs have certain side effects. In this study, the researchers found that the rapid deterioration of cognitive ability in female patients with Alzheimer's disease was associated with severe depletion of maternal mitochondrial ribonucleic acid (RNA) fragments in the brain nuclei affected by the lesions.
