Toyota: vehicle data of 2.15 million users in Japan caused by human error has been made public for a decade and is at risk of data leakage

Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., May 12 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. said Friday that due to human error, vehicle data for 2.15 million users in Japan have been made public for a decade, covering almost all customers who have signed up for its main cloud service platform since 2012. The incident also affected customers of its luxury brand Lexus. A Toyota spokesman said the problem, which began in November 2013 and lasted until mid-April, was due to human error, resulting in a cloud system being set up as public rather than private. The data may include details such as the location of the vehicle and the identification number of the vehicle's equipment, but there are no reports of malicious use, the company said.
