[EU is contacting relevant member states on import ban on agricultural products]-Miriam Garcia Ferrer, spokesman for trade and agricultural affairs of the European Commission, said on 17 April local time that the EU is maintaining communication with Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, which have announced a moratorium on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products. Ferrer pointed out that the European Commission thanked Ukraine's EU neighbors for their support in the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products, and was aware of the problems this might bring to local farmers, but she reiterated the EU's position. "Trade policy is the exclusive jurisdiction of the EU, so unilateral action is unacceptable." In addition, Ferrer said that the European Commission was in contact with the member states that implemented the ban and the Ukrainian government to obtain more information about the scope of the ban and the legal basis. She also stressed the importance of continuing to support Ukraine.
