(FAP, May 9)-US Treasury Secretary Jane Yellen criticized Republicans' proposal to cut spending in exchange for their agreement to raise the debt ceiling, and said the Biden administration had come up with a "responsible fiscal proposal." In an interview on Monday, Ms. Yellen said Republicans had proposed "draconian" spending cuts. She says there is clearly a big gap between this and President Joe Biden's proposal. Yellen also said that although the administration is open to negotiations, it will not consult with a "gun" on its head.
