China Integrity International: downgrade the US sovereign credit rating from AAAg to AA+g

Xinhua News Agency, May 26, China Integrity International downgraded the sovereign credit rating of the United States from AAAg to AA+g on 25 May, continuing to be on the watch list for possible downgrade. Earlier, China Integrity International adjusted its rating outlook for the United States from stable to negative on April 21, 2020, and maintained its AAAg sovereign credit rating. China Integrity International believes that the downgrade of US sovereign credit rating is mainly based on the following reasons: the intensification of political differences between the two parties in the United States increases the difficulty of resolving the debt ceiling issue, which has a negative impact on the effectiveness and continuity of policies; the level of US government debt is among the highest in AAAg countries, and high interest rates push up the cost of US government debt, posing a challenge to debt sustainability With the continuation of the US banking crisis, the Fed's policy path choice faces multiple challenges or exacerbates economic volatility; the deterioration of fiscal strength and frequent touching of the debt ceiling are eroding the credit base of the dollar.
